Clinical Psychologist

Chris Horan is a warm and collaborative psychologist with extensive experience working in corporate and healthcare settings.

He sees adults who are experiencing a range of mental health, lifestyle and relationship difficulties, or difficulties adjusting to change.

Chris specialises in addressing emotional difficulties, such as depression, anxiety, shame, stress or burnout related to:

1) work, study and career issues;

2) bullying and abuse;

3) minority stress in the LGBTI community;

4) grief and loss;

5) low self worth;

6) relationship and attachment insecurity;

7) high sensitivity; and

8) maladaptive coping (e.g. social withdrawal and substance use).

In addition to addressing short-term issues, he is especially skilled at supporting clients to establish the foundations for a more fulfilling, productive, resilient and healthy life.

Depending on the needs of each client, Chris draws on different therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Mindfulness and Self Compassion, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Motivational Interviewing and Emotion-Focused Therapy.

Chris completed his doctorate in clinical psychology at the Australian National University, and he has qualifications in Chemical engineering and Commerce from Monash.

For his doctoral research, Chris designed, developed and evaluated resilience training programs for the NSW Police Force.  Through this research he developed a deep understanding of resilience (https://science.anu.edu.au/study/career-student-stories/how-turn-bad-day-office-life-changing-doctorate).  He is a passionate advocate for equality and emotional health.
